July 2021 update of the WDPA and WD-OECM
The total number of protected area records in the July 2021 release of the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) is 265,940, comprising 253,752 polygons and 12,188 points and covering 245 countries and territories.
The total number of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) in the July 2021 release of the WD-OECM is 506, comprising 207 polygons and 299 points and covering 5 countries and territories.

Highlights:
Sierra Leone: Complete update for Sierra Leone for the first time since 2014. This update includes the addition of 19 forest reserves. And all sites are now represented as polygons. This update was facilitated by OBAPAO through the BIOPAMA programme.

Added: Number of features added to the WDPA or WD-OECM (i.e. new WDPAIDs created).
